Mother Angela UMI Breathes her Last
Reverend Sister Maria Angela Tharayil, popularly known as Mother Angela, a member of the Congregation of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate, Lucknow Province, went to her eternal reward at 11.30 am on 18th January, 2014, at the age of 90 years in Mariampur Convent, Kanpur.
Mother Angela was born on 8th October 1924 in a devout family of Mr. K.P. Vavoo and Mrs. Teresa at Kottekad, Trichur in Kerala. She entered the portals of UMI on the 21st October 1946 and was professed in 1949. Very prayerful and disciplined from the beginning, Mother Angela loved her vocation. Her loving nature, devotion in prayer and commitment in service attracted many more (such as Sr. Claudia, Sr. Chrisanta, Sr. Christina, Sr. Angeline, Sr. Angel and others) from her family to Ursuline Congregation. People love her for her simplicity and generosity. Education and pastoral care were her favourite ministries.
Out of her 65 years of religious life, she has spent 55 years in the diocese of Allahabad, especially in St. Patrick’s Kanpur, Chakeri, Mariampur, Obra and Robertsganj.
The mortal remains of Sr. Angela will be buried in the Christian Cemetery, Chunniganj, Kanpur after the funeral service at 11 am on 20th January, 2014 at Mariampur Convent, Kanpur to be conducted by Bishop Raphy Manjaly in the presence of the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Alex D’Souza, UMI Provincial Sr. Rupa UMI, Vice Provincial Sr. Rose George UMI, priests, religious and laity of the diocese and neighbouring dioceses.
Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her, May her soul rest in peace.
