Diocese of Allahabad to cater to the Destitute and the Blind: Bishop Raphy

“Mother Teresa worked tirelessly forgetting her own self for the wellbeing of the humanity. She is an ideal for care and service. Inspired by her life the diocese of Allahabad pledges to open an institute for the dying and destitute and another institute for the education of the blind children in the city of Allahabad,” said Bishop Raphy Manjaly, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Allahabad, speaking at a function organised to honour Saint Mother Teresa at St. Mary’s Church, Muirabad on Sunday morning.

The programme began with a prayer service which included Bible reading, worship songs, prayers, offerings and exhortation. The congregation in one voice prayed for the Sisters of Missionaries of Charity who are caring for the rejected and orphaned children for the last 35 years in Shishu Bhavan, Muirabad. During the service, Bishop Raphy exhorted every one present to become a symbol of love for the last, least and the lost in the society.

During the programme, the Sisters of Missionaries of Charity were felicitated with garland and bouquets for the great humanitarian work that they are rendering in the city of Allahabad. Fr. Louis Mascarenhas, the Vicar General of the diocese appreciated the work which the MC Sisters are doing at the grass root level in the society. The children and youth presented dance, group songs etc. The prayer dance by the Students of Nazareth Niwas, solo dance by Falak Bhatnagar, instrumental piece on piano by Alan Philip, group song from the inmates of Shishu Bhavan, groups dance by the tiny tots of Shishu Bhavan captured the attention of all.

There were almost five hundred people present to witness this great event. Besides Fr. Rolfie, Fr. Reginald, Fr. K. K. Antony the well-known figures in the city of Allahabad, there were also Fr. William D’Souza, Fr. Sebastian D’Cruz, Fr. Ambose D’Souza who rendered service in St. Mary’s Church previously. Fr. Anumod IMS, the officiating parish priest proposed the vote of thanks.
