Sr. Jeane, Yet Another Loss for UMI

Yet another loss to the UMI Lucknow Province. Reverend Sister Jeane Marie, aged 62, a member of the Congregation of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate, Lucknow Province, went to her eternal reward at 5.30 pm on 14th March, 2014, in Mariampur Convent, Kanpur.  

Sr. Jeane Marie was born on 26th June 1952 as the eldest of the 7 children born to late Mr.  K. J. Thomas and Mrs. Rosamma Kottarathil at Kalloorkad, Ayavana - Sacred Heart Church in Kothamangalam Diocese, Kerala.  She was christened as Mary, fondly called Mercy by her loving family members and she received the name Jeane Marie in religious life. Born to a traditional, God-fearing Christian family, Sr. Jeane has 2 brothers and 4 sisters of which Sr. Josy UMI, belongs to Nirmala Province, Delhi. Sr. Josy has been with Sr. Jeane from the time when her health conditions began to  deteriorate.

 Sr. Jeane Marie completed her schooling and joined the Ursuline Congregation at Kannur on 21st January 1970 and after the initial formation she made her first Profession on 2nd February 1973 and in the following years completed her Intermediate and rendered her services at  Renukoot School Office and was teaching too. She went for her Tertianship programme in 1977-78 at Bangalore and made her final commitment on 3rd May 1978.

 Sr. Jeane Marie availed her dedicated services in the Congregation and in the different communities of the Province. She has worked in almost all the UMI Communities in the diocese of Allahabad.  She has served in Nirmala Convent, Renukoot, St. Patrick’s Convent, Kanpur, St. Joseph’s Convent, Robertsganj, Sacred Heart Convent, Obra, St. Joseph’s Convent, Chakeri, Kanpur and Mariampur  Convent, Kanpur.  She functioned as office staff in the school, Provincial’s Secretary, teacher, animator and principal of schools.   

At the time she breathed her last, Sr. Jeane was in Mariampur Hospital being treated for Cancer. She was very patient and never a complaint came out from her mouth inspite of the acute suffering she underwent.

The Diocese of Allahabad places on record the selfless service she rendered in the various parts of the diocese of Allahabad, especially her services in St. Xavier’s School, Robertsganj from 1989-1995.

The Funeral Rites of the deceased will be conducted in St. Joseph's Church, Chakeri at 3.30 pm on Saturday, 15th March, 2014. Most Rev. Raphy Manjaly, Bishop of Allahabad, Rev. Sr. Elveera UMI the Superior General, Rev. Sr. Rupa UMI the Provincial Superior, Rev. Sr. Ritty UMI the Provincial Superior of UMI Delhi Province will be present to bid her adieu.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord. May her soul REST IN PEACE.
