Charismatic Canossian Missionary Mother Angela Breathes Her Last

Rev. Sr. Angela Cozzini, fondly known as ‘Mother Angela’ a great Canossian Missionary from Italy belonging to the Queen of Province Lucknow went to her heavenly abode this evening (November 5, 2014) at 6.05 hours. She was ailing due to old age and cardiac problems in Maria Sadan, Lucknow.

Born on the 4th September 1924, at Trento in Italy to Mr. Luigi Cozzini and Mrs. Giuseppina Cozzini, Mother Angela joined the Canossian Congregation just a month after India received her Independence in 1947. After her initial formation and her first profession in 1950 in Vimercate in Italy, she desired to become a missionary and to serve in India. Hence, she arrived at Mumbai, India on 18th June, 1951. She worked for twenty years in Pratapgarh before she moved to Maharashtra to work as the Superior and Nurse in Andheri, Manickpur and Shirpur.  She returned to Pratapgarh again, this time with the additional responsibility to animate the community. She had been in Maria Sadan Lucknow since 1998.

Mother Angela who lived a saintly life is remembered for her simplicity and caring nature. All those who met her received from her some positive strokes. Always grateful and appreciative, Mother had complete trust in the providence of the Lord.  She was a devout and prayerful person who even recited the rosary just two hours before her departure from her earthly abode.

The mortal remains of Mother Angela will be buried in the Christian Cemetery, Lucknow, after the funeral rites, to be held in Maria Sadan from 3.00 pm on 7th November 2014 in the presence of Bishop Gerald Mathias, Vicar General Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza, Canossian Provincial Rev. Sr. Elizabeth, priests, religious and laity of Lucknow and neighbouring dioceses.

The diocese of Allahabad places on record the 28 youthful and energetic years of service which she rendered in Pratapgarh caring for the sick and needy. She was in St. Francis Convent Pratapgarh and Canossa Hospital, Pratapgarh from 1953 to 1973 and again from 1987-1992. She also nursed the sick in Allahabad as an incharge of the Dispensary from 1995-1998.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace.
