Sonebhadra Zone Celebrated Year of Faith

The Sonbhadra Zone of the Diocese of Allahabad celebrated the Year of Faith on Sunday 27th October 2013, in Nirmala Convent School Renukoot with great devotion.  About 1350 faithful  from nine  parishes of the zone, namely, St. Joseph’s Church, Shaktinagar, St. Joseph’s Church, Rihandnagar, St. Francis Church, Anpara,  Lourdes Church, Renukoot, Kripaon Ki Mata Church, Dudhi,    Khrist Jyoti Catholic Ashram,   Asnabandh,  Sacread Heart Church, Obra,  St. Francis Xavier Church,  Robertsganj and St. Mary’s Church, Mirzapur, came together with their priests and religious to witness their faith. The resource persons were Fr. Francis Vyagappan from Shanti Dham Ashram, Varanasi and Mr. Shaji George from Matrdham Ashram, Varanasi. Rt. Rev. Patras Minj , S.J., Bishop of Ambikapur diocese,  was the main celebrant for the solemn Eucharistic celebration.

The program started with the welcome and Key Note address by Rev. Fr. Eugene Mascarenhas, the Dean of the Sonebhadra Deanery.  Then the enthroning the Holy Bible followed. The resource person, Fr. Vyagappan in his deliberations explained the real meaning of faith with the scriptural background.  Mr. Shaji George a convert to Christianity explained the need of deep faith in this fast changing world with his personal testimony. He was a powerful orator who touched the heart of every faithful. He challenged every Catholic who has received their faith from the birth and not witnessing Jesus in a more meaningful way. During the praise and worship a number of people had the opportunity to make their confessions.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration began with the procession. Sr. Rita UMI from Renukoot gave a meaningful introduction for the Holy Mass. In his homily the main celebrant Rt. Rev. Patras Minj expressed his happiness to be in the diocese of Allahabad and congratulated all the priests and religious of the Sonbadra  zone for bringing together such a big crowd.  While explaining the faith of Abraham in the Old Testament and the Canaanite woman in the gospels, he urged the congregation to be deep rooted in their faith.  The Choir under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Jacob Bona D’Souza from St. Francis Church, Anpara created a prayerful atmosphere by their melodious singing. After the festal blessing, the dean Fr. Eugene honored the main celebrant and the resource persons with the shawl.   Mrs. Elizabeth Regi from Renukoot proposed the vote of thanks. Rev. Fr. Baptist D’Souza, was the Master of Ceremony.  As the choir sang the recessional hymn, “Chirag Ban Jaho Tum Jaghme”, people were given the lighted candles and sent out with the light to keep their faith ever growing and deepening. The whole liturgy was meaningful and devotional. Rev. Fr. Raymond D’Souza, the Sisters from Nirmala Convent and the parishioners left no stones unturned to make the celebration a mega success.
