Catholics in Allahabad Reach Out to the Flood Victims
The diocese of Allahabad under the banner of Diocesan Development andWelfare Society (DDWS) undertook flood relief work to the people house arrestedby the recent floods in the regions of Ashoknagar, Ganganagar and Nevada. The team consisting of Rev. Fr. Deepak D’Souza,the Director of DDWS, Rev. Fr. Archibald D’Silva the Regional Youth Director,the students from St. Mary’s Teachers Training Institute, Ms. Rini, Mr. ChandraPrakash Gangaji, Mr. Dukhan travelled though the flooded roads by boat andreached out to the people trapped in the houses. The same was done by the studentsfrom St. Mary’s Convent Inter College too.
As reported by the Director of DDWS many of the people were lowering thebuckets with the help of ropes to pick up the food packets and water. The mostneeded things were water, candles and match boxes. People were without food,water and electricity; safeguarding their things trapped in the houses. Some ofthem don’t even want to leave the houses just because their belongings andvehicles are trapped inside the houses. Many were waiting for the help andthe help came by boating through the streets. Someof them had lost all hope being unable to contact their near and dear ones asthey could not charge their mobiles.
The administrations took a bold step in going through the flooded watersmorning till evening boating through the streets from house to housedistributing food and water.
