Reverend Sister Christa, a member of Congregation of Jesus, Allahabad Province, went to her eternal reward on 23rd April, 2013, at the age of 78 years and 3 months in St.Mary’s Convent, Allahabad.
Sr. Christa wasborn on 27th January, 1935 in a devout Catholic family to Chevalier Peter and Linda de Noronha at Kanpur. She was christened as Christine deNoronha. The sudden demise of her dear mother at the tender age of nine deprived her and her brother Doughlas of many childhood joys, but she found amother in Mrs. Florence de Noronha. She grew up among three brothers and two sisters- namely, the Late Doughles and Nevelle, then Alen, known as Chota Bhai,Irene and Louisa.
Educated by theCJ sisters at Kanpur and Nainital, Sr. Christa developed a great love for religious life. On completing her training in Teachers’ Training College she taught forthree years in SMC Kanpur and then joined the CJ Congregation in 1959. She entered the Novitiate at Patna on 2nd Feb. 1961.
Sr. Christa has spent greater part of her Religious life in Allahabad ‘21’ and ‘32’. Besidesshe was missioned in Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow and Bangalore. All through thepast 52 years of her Religious life, God has been carrying her in His arms safeand secure, giving her the necessary graces and strength to endure the hardships of life.
Sr.Christa hasbeen a person of rare capabilities of Head and Heart. Her calmness and serenityin times of adversity, cheerful service and perfectionism have influenced manylives. Sister possessed a keen ear for beautiful language and music and hadhelped as a Choir mistress in this Cathedral. As she was a voracious reader andhad vast knowledge about various things she was even known as a mobile encyclopedia. She was an excellent teacher and a great guide who has inspired many teachers, students and parents.
The mortal remains of Sr. Christa will be buried in the Christian Cemetery, Rajapur,Allahabad on 24th April, 2013 in the presence of the Bishop IgnatiusMenezes, Chancellor Rev. Fr. K.K. Antony, CJ Provincial Sr. Sumitha, priests,religious and laity of the diocese and neighbouring dioceses.
