Yamuna Bridge
Holy River Yamuna (the main tributary of river Ganges) separates Allahabad from
its satellite town Naini. Earlier the city was connected with Naini by an old rail-cum-road
bridge. It was felt that this bridge will not be able to cater the needs of ever
increasing traffic between two sides of the river. Moreover, the development of
Naini as industrial town has also created traffic pressure on the then existing
bridge. Keeping this in view and the future requirements of the national waterway,
the traffic plying between Kolkata and Punjab, and the aesthetics of the Sangam
where pilgrims from all over the world come to have a holy dip, a concrete cable-stayed
four-lane road bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs. 300 crores. The total length
of the bridge is 1510 m and width 26 m. The bridge connects old GT Road (NH-2) at
Allahabad end and NH-27 at Naini side. This bridge has an added attraction at night.
