A Brief History:
Forty years down memory lane, we see the divine intervention mightily guiding and shaping the destiny of Bethany, as it took roots in Sultanpur. It was through the instrumentality of Bishop Raymond D’Mello, that the second house – Stella Maris Convent was opened on 1 July 1968 in the Diocese of Allahabad.

The four sisters - Sr. Canice, Sr. Doyline, Sr. Youland and Sr. Imani opened Stella Maris Convent School on 11 July 1968 with 40 children. Least did they suspect the brewing trouble! Within a fortnight of their opening the school, some children came to school with leaflets inciting communal feelings of the people. The sisters were deeply shocked! They trusted in God to redeem them of the situation. Sure enough the next day the children came to school as usual and many parents came forward reassuring them of their support. On 5 July 1977, Fr Joseph D’ Souza the parish priest inaugurated and blessed the new ground floor of K G Block. In 1985 Bishop Mudartha blessed the new convent building.

Stella Maris Convent School in the past 40 years has grown from strength to strength, with its committed and humanitarian services to the society. The school was upgraded to Senior Secondary on 2 April 2008 by Sr. Alodia, the Principal. On 3 July 2010 amidst a large gathering of dignitaries, the newly constructed building was inaugurated by Sr. Maria Leena the Provincial Superior and was blessed by Rt. Rev. Isidore Fernandes, Bishop of Allahabad Diocese.

The growth and development of Stella Maris Convent and School can be rightly attributed to the initiative and guidance given by the Superiors and Principals. The academic excellence and quality education we see today at Stella Maris is the result of the vision of the Management.
