A Brief History:
Since Naini was a backward area known also for criminal activities English medium was far from reality. The people were delighted when on July 12th 1965 the sisters started an English medium school with 60 students from classes KG to III, with Sr. Rosalie as its first Principal. Initially, till a section of the school building was ready at the present site, the sisters occupied a rented building, very generously placed at the disposal of the sisters by Mr. G.l. Mundra, the Chief Secretary of Swadeshi Cotton Mills, Naini.

The land for this School was acquired at great cost, through the efforts of Fr. Alva and by our former Bishop Dr. Leonard Raymond. His successor, Bishop Raymond D’Mello undertook the construction of the school building and entrusted it to Fr. Paul Menezes, who was also placed in charge of the new Mission at Naini. This zealous priest braved the unusual heat of May - June, and pushed through the work of construction so as to get the ground floor ready in time for the opening. Owing to the non- availability of building material, it was not possible to neither complete the building nor erect a residence for the nuns on time. Sisters lived in quarters placed at their disposal by the generous Manager of the Swadeshi Cotton Mills. Inevitably they had to face a considerable hardship, especially in the rainy weather, being forced to live a mile away from the school. But the apostolic endeavor helped them to face the hardship.

The school that was affiliated to the UP Board got its affiliation with the CBSE Board on 25th November 1975 under the dynamic leadership of Mother Gamma. The role played by Shri S C Gupta, the then Secretary of CBSE, needs to be placed on record. On 13th April 1978, the school was granted No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Lucknow by the UP Government.

Bethany Convent School that came into existence in June 1965 with 60 students now has about 2600 students on roll and enjoys an enviable position in Naini and Allahabad as well. Its phenomenal success is due to the untiring labour of all the Principals, staff and students. The school was elevated to Senior Secondary status on 2nd April 2008, due to the inspiring leadership and persistent efforts of Sr. Helima, the Principal.
